School Reports

SARC

November 1988, state law has required all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC.  The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators.

SPSA

Jane Addams Middle School  Single Plan for Student Achievement is a result of the staff’s examination of data from various sources over the course of the last year. Our School Site Council was kept apprised of data and examined it as well as the budget necessary to implement the action plans.

 

What the data revealed:

  • 55% of the students were proficient and advanced in Language Arts in the California Standards Test in 2009-10 testing year. Almost 90% of the students are basic and above--so there is still a pool of students to get to proficient in this coming year. There is still a large number of second language learners who need to show significant improvement both in Language Arts and Math.
  • 8th grade scores in Algebra were good(55% proficient and advanced on CST) but there is room for improvement. The 6th grade scores met last year’s goal of 50% in Math. The 7th grade scores in math rose dramatically to 58% proficient.
  • Science scores at 8th grade indicated that 63% of the students were proficient and advanced. 52% of the 8th grade were proficient in Social Studies, a 8% growth from the previous year.
  • English Learners did not meet AYP goals and need to show marked improvement in Language Arts and Math on the CST.

Our established needs:

  • We have a need to increase the number of students achieving proficiency in language arts and math
  • We continue to have a need to improve the performance of the EL subgroup in Language Arts.
  • We need to continue our support for the physical and emotional wellness of our students
  • We need to involve students in after school activities
  • We need to continue to expand the ways we interact with our parent community

Our goals based on those needs:

  • 62% of the students in Grades 6-8 will be proficient or above in the California Standards Test in Language Arts, 65% of 8th graders will be proficient in Science and 58% in Social Studies on the CST.
  • 64% of 6th grade students and 64% of 7th grade students will be proficient and advanced on the California Standards Test in Math. 60% of 8th grade students taking Algebra will be proficient or advanced on Algebra on the California Standards Test.
  • ELD students not new to the country will improve on the CST in Language Arts and Math. At least 46% in Language Arts and 47% in Math will be proficient or advanced on the CST.
  • Provide a variety of after school activities and intervention support for students so that over 300 students are involved in one form of after school activity during the year. Continue to support Physical Education program so that 74% of the 7th grade students pass the state's annual Physical Fitness Program. Continue to support the school district’s Wellness Goal.
  • Provide a variety of ways for parents to be involved in the school and assist in their child's education and citizenship. We want 80% of our parents to attend Back-to-School, Open House, and Parent Conferences.

Key action items related to those goals:

  • Provide opportunities for teacher collaboration(Professional Learning Communities). Provide staff meeting time and Thursday after school time to analyze the CST blueprints, our student performance data and instructional practices to ensure that gaps are identified and instruction is aligned. The staff is focusing on non-fiction writing strategies and getting students to think critically.
  • Provide a series of interventions for students not yet at standard. Lower the number of students below 2.0 GPA
  • Continue to implement the learning from the Math grant
  • Provide after school network of activities for students
  • Continue to provide multiple ways for parents to be part of the school. Continue School Messenger connections to parents both through phone and e-mails. Maintain school website with homework on the school home page. Continue Power School Parent Portal for ongoing parent access to student grades and assignments

 

The Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) is a plan of actions to raise the academic performance of all students. California Education Code sections 41507,41572, and 64001 and the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) require each school to consolidate all school plans for programs funded through the ConApp and ESEA Program Improvement into the SPSA.
