JAMS Sharefest 2016

Our school has been selected to receive upgrades that will improve the condition of our school as part of the Sharefest Workday on Saturday, April 30th. Sharefest is an organization with a mission to serve the communities of Los Angeles County. We will need many volunteers to help us complete all of our projects. Our projects will include pulling weeds, painting, and cleaning up our garden. We invite you to come and work alongside us as we make our school beautiful! To register, please visit http://workday.sharefestinc.org/projects/JAMS2016 and fill out all the required information. Students must have a signed waiver form in order to participate. They may pick up a form from the office or room 23. We will begin at 8:00 A.M, and you are welcome to come whenever you want and stay as long as you want. Lunch will be provided! Thank you and we look forward to working with you on April 30th!


El sábado, 30 de abril, vamos a mejorar nuestra escuela durante el Día de Trabajo de Sharefest. Sharefest es una organización con la misión de servir a las comunidades del condado de Los Ángeles y ha decidido ayudarnos a mejorar nuestra escuela. El Segundo Christmas Parade

JAMS Marching Band participated in the El Segundo Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 13th.


Palos Verdes Christmas Parade

Congratulations to the JAMS Marching Band, Drumline, and Folklorico dancers for winning 4 trophies in the Palos Verdes Christmas parade on Saturday, December 6th! They took home 1 first place trophy and 3 second place trophies. We are very proud of our students!

iStudy For Success

Your child is participating in the special istudyforSuccess Reading and Study Skills Program. This opportunity will provide reading and study skills practice with individual, small group, and whole group reading experiences. Students will share their interpretations of text and thoughts through classroom discussions and written assignments.

The iStudyforSuccess Program has been carefully designed to incorporate researched-based reading strategies, study skills, writing activities, and electronic media communication. Students will focus on applying what they are learning during independent and classroom reading.

Some of the highlights of the iStudyforSuccess program are:
• introduction to Owizzy's World/Cram Stoppers, unique study websites
• Setting a Purpose for Reading through textbooks and literature
• Activating Prior Knowledge – Making connections with what is read and what is known
• Visualizing – Using different techniques to "see" what is being read
• Inferencing — Learning to infer using a variety of activities
• Learning the Cornell Note Taking system
• Cooperative Learning Groups – Engaging students in the teaching process
• Vocabulary, Vocabulary, Vocabularyl
